Road Stick

I grew up eating SlimJims when we’d visit my grandparents or traveled. I missed the taste but not the source - animals. I finally found a humane substitute that tastes amazing and brings me back to childhood. Thank you!

These jerky sticks taste just like the real thing. I stopped eat meat in 1996 and use to love eating jerky sticks. When I seen this I was curious to give it a try.

I usually love Louisville Jerky but this is horrible. It has a weird olive aftertaste. Really kicking myself for buying the 15 pack. Definitely try the 5 before making a larger order. The flavor is very.. odd.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Louisville Jerky Co.’s vegan jerkies, so I was really looking forward to trying their new Road Sticks. Unfortunately, this one is a bit of a swing and a miss for me.

The flavor is pretty good. I don’t love it, but it has a nice savory smokiness that’s enjoyable. It also wasn’t quite as reminiscent of a Slim Jim as I was expecting based on the concept.

Where it really loses me is the texture. I was hoping for something closer to Bean Stalk’s Savory Salami sticks, with a firmer but slightly more tender bite and chew. Instead, the Road Sticks come across as a bit drier. It’s a different kind of texture than I was expecting, and it’s just not my preference.

That said, taste is subjective. My wife really enjoys them and happily finished the rest of the pack, so your mileage may vary on the vegan snack road. While these won’t be a repeat purchase for me, I’m still a loyal Louisville Jerky Co. fan and will continue to enthusiastically recommend their traditional vegan jerky products.

These are awesome! Taste great! Perfect texture and the kind of easy open packaging that some food peeps ignore! I bought 30 of them for a bunch of ferocious vegans and I’ll need more immediately. Every product LJC makes is perfect, love this new line and wow if they do regular and small batch flavors, I’ll go broke!!! AWESOME!

Pretty damn good, bought 15 and gobbled them up within a week. Definitely is not a Slim Jim, more like Jack Links flavor-profile-wise but still delicious and worth it for someone who has been fiending for a beef jerky sticky for 10+ years. Will definitely be ordering more!

these are NOTHING like slim jims. the texture is horrible. i love yall, but this was like a hard, cold hotdog. theres no bite to it, it just like crumbles in your mouth.

Delicious! I hope a spicy version is in the works.

I will start this review saying I’ve never had an actual Slim Jim, but have had a few other vegan dupes of one. I really liked the smoky flavor of the road stick. It was a little soft, but not in a bad way. I just think they’re very expensive for what you get.

A pretty damn good take on the typical meat stick

I hated the flavor on this one, but I will say I have loved all of the bagged jerky I have gotten from them! Especially love the truffle one. Try it!

I used to eat Slim Jim as a kid & even though I stopped eating them long before I even became a vegan in 2015, I gave this vegan version a try & I'm glad I did. Happy there's now a vegan Slim Jim.

I had high hopes for the new Road Stick when I added a couple to a recent 10 pack bundle, but they just didn't do it for me. The taste was pretty good. though a little mild, but like some other folks, the texture was too grainy, powdery, and soft. The Road Stick lacks that chewy texture that makes the regular LVJCO jerky so great. I even tried putting it in the fridge for a while but that didn't seem to make much of a difference. I'm hoping they keep working to refine it, maybe by adding in some soy protein to give it a firmer texture. I'm glad to see that some folks like it, but right now it's not for me.

Really like this road stick! I’ve been looking for something like this for so long. Overall, it’s something I will continue to buy. I do think the texture could be improved. It is a bit dry about midway through. I think using soy or something instead of fava bean would definitely improve the texture to be more like a jerky stick and increase protein content.

So, I'm definitely a fan. Tried one in another order of regular Louisville Jerky. The flavor is excellent. The flavor is definitely like a refined version of the old fashioned gas station stick, but this is more of a "Slender James" rather than a Slim Jim. It's got the same flavor profile, but it's not as artificial tasting.
The texture is the one spot where it could be improved, in my opinion. It could have a little more snap to it, and it could definitely stand to be firmer. The warmer it is, the worse the texture is. Not saying stick it in the fridge, but it's definitely better cooler because the texture is more familiar and firmer when it's not warm. All in all, I was very impressed, and ordered 20 of'em after the first try.

I miss eating the slim Jim’s so much. Every time I go into a gas station and see them my mouth starts watering. Now I have my own that taste just as good. Thank you so much for this.

Flavor is excellent. I prefer the texture of the bagged jerky to the sticks because the sticks are less chewy, more "mealy". I'd prefer them to be a teeny bit more fatty in mouth feel, but that fat would make them less healthy, so.... I do like the ease of unwrapping and chowing down on the stick for a quick snack, so I buy both varities.

I was never a fan of “Slim Jims” and had no idea what to expect. Was just hoping for vegan and tasty, which I always get from LVJCo. Well, these “Road Sticks” are downright addictive. I inhaled the first dozen I ordered, and then immediately ordered 30 more. Still not enough — 90 more are on the way.

I guess they’re not health food, but they really are nutritionally balanced with 5 grams protein, 5 carb, and 4.5 fat. You could do a lot worse.

Put it in my blood (and my local gas station). We hate car infrastructure here, but these are good enough to make you consider driving one for the full experience.

Kind of plain, but great texture!

Really delicious. The texture and taste is pretty on par with regular jerky. I haven’t had beef jerky in a long time, but this scratched the itch for a quick bite/snack on the go.

Road Sticker is an ok; it needs more flavor and crunchier texture.

The jerky flavor was good but the texture could be better. Maybe it’s the lack of soy?
